Slothy Sloth

Here's a t-shirt rough that I originally wanted to work on for this week's derby, but by the time I got home to actually start on it, there must have been like 6-7 Sloth submissions.

Now prior to the idea being tossed out by Dale, I had no real clue what sloths even looked like. So here's a mix of sketches I did to get comfortable with the sloth before and after getting reference.

Derby #65: Shirt as Costume

By far, the toughest to come up with ideas... sorta. I mean I could sit here an think of a million super heroes I wouldn't mind doing a shirt for, but copyrights and all that jazz. Other folks have pointed out, alot of this shirts have already been made so that's another obstacle to avoid. I'm hoping I made my shirt unrealistic enough as not to gross people out.

Art as Text x3

Nope, your eyes are not playing tricks on you. This week I managed to submit three entires on day one which give me plenty of time to do even more shirts over the weekend... or watch more TV.

For this last one, my buddy Dan Cardinali gave me the idea.
I guess I owe him some drinks if it wins.

2012

Dale's been doing a great job of motivating me. I hate to give him so much credit cuz he's such a jerk otherwise, but if you ever find yourself in a drawing rut, dale's the man. I'd like to also point out that for me, the month of Sept was by far the most productive month since the start of the blog. Exactly double from 2nd highest (14 posts). Go me! Go me! High fives all around. Here's hoping that my future months are just as productive. Thanks to you folks who come back and continue to throw up your comments. It helps and definitely keeps me going :)

Without further adieu, I present my 3rd and final entry in the Panic derby.

PS. Thanks Dale.

--Update--

This shirt was nominated for "Best Losers" badge.
Don't let the name fool you, it's actually a good thing.

Crash (A Bear's Market)

Here's the finished shirt from the rough below and my 2nd submission for the "Panic" derby. I have one more idea in me (you facebook people might have noticed the rough) but not sure if I'll have the chance to work on it.

Bear with me...

...while I finish up my 2nd submission for the week.
I swear I only wanted to post this sketch just for that pun
(true story).

No Exit

Derby #62 theme is Panic.
I'd panic if I was stuck in a cabin with this guy
blocking my only exit.

Autumn's Embrace

Finally, my very 1st entry in a t-shirt design contest. Clicking on the thumbnail will send you to shirt.woot.com if you care to vote (it doesn't have to be for me :p) although there is one caveat. You need to purchase or have purchased from their site (or sister sites) at least once. Wish me luck.

Bad News

Ugh, so while I was dotting my "i"s and crossing my "t"s I was rereading some of the design limitations of the t-shirt contest when I came across this little nugget of info...

maximum of 6 spot colors

Needless to say, that knocks me out of the competition. Dunno how I missed that clause (doh). Ironiclly, hours ago, I did a rough redesign of the shirt with 5 colors and a bunch of other improvements which would have worked and I preferred more over this one (Thanks for the advice Max) but with the deadline looming and my eyes feeling particularly heavy I thought better to just go with what I had... FAIL! Hehe oh well. I'll be ready for the next contest and when I get around to the redesign, I'll be sure to share it here.
